The red envelopes for the Lunar New Year 2023 - the Year of the Water Rabbit - are now available in my shop!
In East/Southeast Asia, these red envelopes (hong bao in Mandarin and ang pao in my native Hokkien) are gifts of cash given out during holidays or special milestone occasions like weddings, engagements, birthdays, births, housewarmings, and more. The money included in the envelope are always crisp new bills (which is why the banks are always busy right before the holiday!).
I have created two designs around with a rabbit theme to commemorate the upcoming year, but I also have designs that do not make reference to the new year, so that they can be used for other special occasions.
The new year begins on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
