I’m honored to be part of Artistry Repurposed, a group exhibition featuring artists who creatively transform reused and reclaimed materials into powerful visual stories. As an artist in White Plains, I love reimagining discarded or overlooked objects into playful, surprising forms—and this show was a perfect fit.

Salmon No. 3 by Erwin Ong, artist in White Plains, featured in the Artistry Repurposed group show at the Art Gallery in the Rockefeller State Park Preserve, Plesantville, NY

About the Show

Artistry Repurposed celebrates innovative artists working with recycled and found materials. From sculpture to mixed media, each work demonstrates how discarded items can be given new life—and how creativity can be an act of care, reflection, and environmental imagination. The show is curated by Lisa D’Amico, PhD, and co-curated by Debbie Silberberg.

Featured Artwork

Salmon No. 2 (12" H x 15" W)

Salmon No. 2 is a dimensional mixed-media work made from hand-cut, hand-painted cardboard. This playful fish—part folk art, part eco-assemblage—was built layer by layer using recycled packaging. The textures, patterns, and bright color palette invite viewers to look closer and consider what materials can mean when given a second life.

If you’re not local, you can see the works from the exhibit online, explore more of my aquatic characters in my online shop, or learn more about my practice as an artist in White Plains, NY.

A Personal Invitation

This show reminded me how much beauty we can find in the overlooked. With Salmon No. 2 and Salmon No. 3, I wanted to create something joyful from everyday scraps—inviting both kids and adults to smile, squint, and maybe feel a little spark of possibility. If you're in the area this October, I’d love for you to stop by and see the work up close.
